SUMMER READING LIST 2024

Studies have shown that students who read and keep their minds active during the summer months have greater success in the classroom and on standardized tests. We encourage our students to select at least one book on their grade's summer reading list. Students should keep a reading log detailing their thoughts about their selections. This completed log should be turned in to their English teachers in the fall for extra credit. These books are available for purchase at Barnes and Noble or Amazon, and can also be found at the public library.

Incoming 10th Graders (Class of 2027)

To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee

A Gathering of Old Men by Ernest Gaines

Incoming 11th Graders (Class of 2026)

The Scarlet Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne

The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini

A Tree Grows in Brooklyn by Betty Smith

Incoming 12 Graders (Class of 2025)

The Bluest Eye by Toni Morrison

Brave New World by Aldous Huxley

Between the World and Me by Ta-Nehesi Coates

We strongly recommend that incoming twelfth graders spend time this summer preparing for the college admissions process.  Plan some visits to local colleges and universities and continue working on the Common Application.  Seniors who plan to take the fall SAT should spend some time preparing for the exam. In addition to the free practice provided through Khan Academy, there are several SAT preparation books available. MACS recommends Digital SAT Prep Plus: 2025.
