Experiencing Homelessness (McKinney-Vento)
McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Policy
Multicultural Academy Charter School (MACS) will ensure that each homeless student has access to free, appropriate public education and that homelessness is not a sufficient reason to prevent enrollment through lack of documentation or to prevent a child from continuing his or her education at MACS. The staff works together to identify homeless students and refer them to the liaison. This is done by removing educational barriers, providing free transportation services, free breakfast, and lunch, and offering assistance in purchasing uniforms, school materials, and any other basic necessities. Funds are set aside specifically for students and families experiencing homelessness. Parents or guardians of homeless students are informed of the educational and related opportunities available to their children provided at MACS. All information on community organizations and resources such as providing shelter, counseling, food, and transportation will be provided to homeless students and their families by the liaison.
