Community Service

Students will be required to perform 20 hours of community service every school year at a charitable/non-profit organization. The organization must be registered as a 501 (c) (3) charitable organization. It may also be selected from the pre-approved list, available in the Counselor's office. If not, it must be approved by the Counselor PRIOR to completion of hours.

  • If there is a non-profit organization that is not on the list of approved sites, please obtain all information about the organization you are interested in, and contact Ms. Elliott, the School Counselor for approval at 215-227-0512 ext 101 or [email protected] PRIOR to completing the hours.

Community service completed at other organizations will not count toward a student's 20 required hours.  By the end of each quarter, students must have completed a minimum of 5 hours; by the end of the second quarter, a total of 10 hours; by the end of the third quarter, a total of 15 hours; and by the end of the fourth quarter, a total of 20 hours for the year.  If approved in advance by the Principal, a student can earn .25 of an academic credit for every 30 hours in excess of the required 20 hours of community service, up to one full credit each year.

In order for credit to be received, all hours must be documented in writing by the cooperating agency and must be submitted to the Counselor.  Whenever performing community service, the student is expected to conduct himself or herself with dignity, respect, and responsibility.

All students must contact an approved site and complete any application process required by the agency.  All volunteer hours must be completed after school or on weekends.

Each student will receive a community service grade on their report card and transcript. Students will receive a “P” for passing if they turned in their required hours. Students will receive a “F” for failing if they did not turn in their required hours. Students must receive a “P” for passing during each quarter and end of the school year to be eligible for honor roll.
