Welcome to Multi-Cultural Academy Charter School
MACS is now accepting Applications of Intent for the 2010-2011 School Year. Click here for more information. A public high school (Grades 9-12) in its eleventh year of operation, the Multi-Cultural Academy Charter School (MACS) provides a multi-cultural and safe environment where every child is given the opportunity to develop holistically and intellectually. The educational program is supported by a computer network, as well as SmartBoards for effective communication, learning, and research.
The curriculum of this unique and innovative school is focused on academic achievement, multi-culturalism, reading, writing, computer technology, and career exploration. MACS has made AYP for the past four years in a row and in 6 of the last 8 years. Community service is a cornerstone of the MACS philosophy. Although all students are required to complete 20 hours of community service per year, many students perform over 100 hours each year. In 2007, two of our students were recognized with the prestigious President's Award for Community Service. In 2010, senior Iesha Moore received The Philadelphia Inquirer Student Citizenship Award, and freshman Kenny Surfin was named a Mayor's VIP (Very Impressive Performer) for earning straight A's and having perfect attendence. While providing a standards-driven and student-centered academic environment, this charter school is distinctive in offering students the opportunity to take advantage of an extended school day (3:30 PM -5:00 PM) and Saturday sessions (8:30 AM - 11:30 AM); character education with emphasis on dignity, respect, and responsibility; career counseling and exploration; transition from school-to-work; community service; and individualized instruction. | |||||||||||||||||||
